Riding high on some quality individual performances, India romped home in the Rajkot test against the vulnerable West Indians to keep intact its aura of invincibility in home conditions. Although not many expected the Windies to outperform India in India, the hope that they will put up a spirited response was always there, and they failed to live up to it. With a 1-0 lead in a two test match series, India enters the Hyderabad test as the clear favourites while the visitors have to take the drubbing in their stride to come out strongly on the buoyed Indians.

Pitch and Weather Report:

Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, the venue for the second test, is considered to favour batsmen on the first couple of days and put spinners in the driving seat as the game progresses. It is more likely that the team winning the toss will opt to bat, put up a decent total on the board and expect its spinners to dominate the proceedings later in the game. Despite passing clouds, there is no forecast of rain, and the sun will be out for the most part of the game. The temperature will reach as high as 35 degree C and humidity levels exceeding 60 per cent.

Players to watch out for:

Prithvi Shaw, the 18-year-old prodigy who made his debut to test cricket with an impressive century, will look to steal the show again with his skills, temperament and aggression.

His opening partner, KL Rahul may respond well, as his immediate cricketing career is at stake – another dismal performance can keep him out of the team for a while.

Kohli and Pujara are tried and tested performers and will look to further the team’s cause with a brilliant display of batsmanship.

Kuldeep Yadav, Ashwin and Jadeja will be eager to have a go at Windies whose vulnerability to quality spin laid threadbare in the first encounter.

Windies will count on the experience and talent of Kraigg Brathwaite for a steady start at the top. Kieran Powell, his opening partner, may get his act together to put up a decent show.

The second test is expected to be an out-and-out India’s show. It has meat in all departments of the game, be it batting, bowling or fielding, along with the home advantage and confidence of an emphatic win. Contrarily, the visitors have neither the skills required at the top level nor the adaptability needed to outdo quality teams in unfavorable conditions. Given their lackluster performance in the first test, they are unlikely to pull off an upset in Hyderabad.
